Short history

The Journey of the Coptic Orthodox Church in Pakistan:

With the grace of God, the Coptic Orthodox Church in Pakistan began its humble journey in 2003, planting the first seeds of faith, love, and service in the hearts of the local Christian community.

From 2003 to 2009, the service was supported and nurtured through the pastoral care of Fr. Pishoi William Atalla from St Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Toronto, Canada, and Fr. Mark Atalla from Melbourne, Australia.

In 2009, the late Fr. Anthony was ordained in Melbourne, Australia. He began serving this growing mission with deep dedication. Together with his family, he gave his life wholeheartedly to the church serving with love, sacrifice, and unwavering faith. His impact continues to live on in every soul he touched.

In 2014, the parish came under the care of the Coptic Orthodox Church, under His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, who delegated pastoral oversight to Fr. Daoud Lamei and Fr. Amounious (Elanba Paula), who serves in Sydney, Australia, along with Servant George Tadros, strengthening the service and guiding its spiritual growth.

In September 2023, Fr. Mark was ordained to join the service in Pakistan. He faithfully served alongside Fr. Anthony, continuing the mission and supporting the spiritual growth of the congregation.
On Friday, 25 April 2025, Fr. Anthony reposed in peace after a life of faithful service. His departure was a great loss, yet his legacy remains a shining light for the church and its people.

Today, the church continues its journey, built on the foundation of sacrifice, unity, and love serving the community in Pakistan with hope and faith.

Who we Are

St Mary Coptic Orthodox Church in Islamabad is not only a place of worship, but also a centre of compassion, service, and community development. As part of the worldwide Coptic Orthodox Church, founded by Saint Mark the Apostle, the church carries a mission that combines faith with practical care for those in need.

The church operates under the spiritual leadership of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St Mark, and under the pastoral care of Fr. Mark, who leads both the spiritual and community service efforts.

At the heart of the church’s mission is a commitment to uplift vulnerable families and support the wider community through meaningful initiatives, including:

Assisting families with essential food supplies and basic needs

Supporting children’s education through school sponsorships

Providing a safe and supportive environment for youth development

Delivering community programs that promote dignity, stability, and hope

Offering pastoral care, counselling, and spiritual guidance

The church serves people from all backgrounds with love and respect, aiming to build bridges, strengthen communities, and contribute positively to society while remaining faithful to its Christian values.

With God’s grace, St Mary Church continues to grow as a beacon of faith, compassion, and service bringing both spiritual care and tangible support to those who need it most
